Candle Care & Safety
Each candle is poured by hand into a hand-carved mango wood bowl, and no two are quite alike. A little care keeps yours burning evenly to the end, and keeps the bowl ready for whatever comes next.
- Trim the wicks to5 mmbefore each lighting
- Burn for no more than2 to 3 hoursat a time
- Stop burning at1 cmof wax remaining
- Keep candles at least10 cmapart
Before the first flame
The first burn
Give it time. Let the first burn run for 2 to 3 hours, until the melted wax reaches the edge of the bowl.
A candle remembers its first burn. A full pool of wax now sets the pattern for every burn after it, and prevents the candle from tunnelling down the middle.
Best use
Every burn
- Trim the wicks to 5 mm before each lighting. Shorter wicks give a calmer flame and less smoke.
- Burn for no more than 2 to 3 hours at a time, then let the candle cool and set fully before lighting it again.
- Keep the wax pool clear of wick trimmings, matches and debris.
- Mind the botanicals. If one drifts towards a flame, put the candle out, let it cool and lift it away.
- Use a snuffer to put the flame out. Never use water.
- Set it on a tray. Place the bowl on a stable, heat-resistant, non-flammable tray to protect the surface beneath.

Safety
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep away from children and pets.
- Keep away from things that can catch fire.
Everything in this candle is natural and flammable, including the wooden bowl. Please take the same care you would with any open flame.
- Burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from draughts and heat sources.
- Trim the wicks to 5 mm before each lighting.
- Burn for no more than 2 to 3 hours at a time.
- Keep candles at least 10 cm apart.
- Keep the wax pool clear of matches, wick trimmings and debris.
- Do not move the candle while it is lit or while the wax is liquid.
- Never use water to put the flame out. Use a snuffer.
- The bowl may become hot. Do not touch it while the candle is burning.
- Stop burning when 1 cm of wax remains.
Allergen and hazard information for your fragrance is printed on the box and on the label of your candle. Please keep it with the candle. The candle is not for consumption. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
The last burn
The bowl is yours to keep
When about a centimetre of wax remains, put the candle out for the final time. That last layer of wax keeps the heat of the flame away from the wood, so please do not burn below it.
Cleaning the bowl
- Let the bowl cool completely.
- Place it in the freezer for a few hours. The cold shrinks the wax so it lifts away cleanly.
- Lift out the remaining wax and the wick bases.
- Wipe the bowl with a warm, soapy, damp cloth, using as little water as you can.
- Dry it thoroughly.
The bowl is not dishwasher safe, and it should not be soaked.
What to do with it
Swap in a refill, or keep the bowl for keys, rings and trinkets around the home. It is not for food use.
Made for this bowl
Fitting a refill
- When your candle reaches its last centimetre of wax, put it out and let the bowl cool completely.
- Clean the bowl as above and dry it thoroughly.
- Set the refill into the bowl with the wicks upright.
- Trim the wicks to 5 mm, place the bowl on a heat-resistant, non-flammable tray and light. Let the first burn reach the edge.
Use refills only inside a Foxwood & Bramble bowl. The band around your refill carries its safety and allergen information, so please keep it with the candle.
If something is not quite right
Troubleshooting
The wax is tunnelling
The candle was put out before the wax reached the edge. On the next burn, let it run for the full 2 to 3 hours so the pool can widen.
The flame is tall, flickering or smoking
Put the candle out, let it cool, trim the wicks to 5 mm and move it away from any draught before relighting.
The wick has a dark, rounded tip
This is carbon that builds up over a long burn. Once the candle is cool, trim it away before the next lighting.
Storing your candle
Keep it somewhere cool and dry, out of direct sunlight, with the surface covered so it stays free of dust.
For wardrobes, drawers and quiet corners
Scented wax sachets
- Hang in a wardrobe, or lay in a drawer on a sheet of paper.
- Avoid direct contact with fabrics and with polished or painted surfaces.
- Keep out of direct sunlight.
- Do not heat or burn. Sachets are scented wax, not candles.
- Not for consumption. Keep away from children and pets.
